REST _ Annie Hester Finley,
65, of 875 Old Buncombe
Road, died July 10, 1995, at
St. Francis Hospital
following a number of years
of declining health.
She was a homemaker
and a member of Reedy River
Baptist Church and the Lydia
Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her
husband, Marvin E. Finley; a
daughter, Patricia Finley of
Travelers Rest; her mother,
Mary Pike Hester of
Travelers Rest; a sister,
Katherine H. Poston of
Dallas, Ga., and a brother,
Ralph B. Hester of Travelers
Rest.
Services: 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Reedy River
Baptist Church with burial
in the church cemetery.
Visitation: 7 to
8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas
McAfee Funeral Home,
Northwest.

Kathy Bailey Fortner
EASLEY_ Kathy
Bailey Fortner, 60, of
Fleetwood Drive, died March
11, 1987 after an extended
illness.
She was a homemaker
and a member of Maranatha
Baptist Church.
Surviving are three
daughters, Wilma Trotter of
Easley, Doris Ann Pennington
of Haines City, Fla., and
Virginia Faye Drymon of
Pickens; two sons, Douglas
Dodgens of Easley and
Stanley Dodgens of
Greenville; two brothers,
Leroy Bailey and Bill
Bailey, both of Greenville;
and two sisters, Frances
Pearson of Greenville and
Bessie Cox of Mauldin.
Services: 2 p.m.
Friday at Maranatha Baptist
Church with burial in Reedy
River Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Visitation: 7 to 9
p.m. Thursday at the Dillard
Funeral Home, Pickens.

Paul W. Foster
Paul William Foster, 72,
husband of Deanie Barrow
Foster, of Rt. 9, North
Parker Road, Greenville,
died Sunday.
Born in North
Wilkesboro County, N.C., son
of the late William and
Susie Greer Foster, he owned
and operated Foster Rug
Cleaning before his
retirement. He was a member
of Reedy River Baptist
Church, the church choir and
the Men's Bible Class of the
Sunday School. During World
War II, he served in the
U.S. Army.
Surviving also are
three sisters, Mrs. Nancy F.
Lawson of Jacksonville,
Fla., Mrs. Edith F. Brackett
of Sylva, N.C. and Mrs. Mary
P. Pennell of Virginia
Beach, Va.; and a brother,
Charlie Foster of Blowing
Road, N.C.
Services will be at
2 p.m. Tuesday at Reedy
River Baptist Church. Burial
will be in the Church
Cemetery.
The body will be
placed in the church at 1:30
p.m. Tuesday.
The family will
receive friends from 7 to
8:30 p.m. Monday at the
Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

Joseph S. Fox
Joseph S.
Fox, 67, well known resident
of Paris Mountain township,
died at 3:30 o'clock
yesterday afternoon at his
home, Altamont road, just
off the Buncombe road, six
miles from Greenville, after
several months ill health.
He was reared near
Morganton, N.C., and later
having lived in McAdenville,
but for the past 30 years
had lived in this county,
where he was held in high
esteem by countless friends.
Mr. Fox engaged in farming.
He was a devoted member of
Reedy River Baptist church,
where he served as teacher
of the Men's Bible class in
the Sunday school and as a
member of the deacons'
board, both of which offices
he held for many years.
Mr. Fox was a public
spirited citizen, interested
in the upbuilding of his
community and will be
greatly missed.
He was twice
married, his first wife
having been Miss Mary
Georganne Coggins, of
McAdenville, N. C., who died
in 1897. From this union he
is survived by three
children.
He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Maggie Fox,
and by two sons, Oscar F.
Fox, of Greenville, and
Manly C. Fox, of
Newport-News, Va., and by
two daughters, Mrs. J. F.
Vickery and Miss Clara Marie
Fox, of Greenville. He is
also survived by two
brothers, Alfred Fox of
Fieldale, Va., and Cicero
Fox, of Hamlet, N. C., and
by three sisters, Mrs.
Robert Lingerfelt, of
Morganton, N. C., Mrs.
Thomas Christenbury and Mrs.
Edward Smith, of Denver,
Col. There are nine
surviving grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be held this afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock at the Reedy
River Baptist church
conducted by the pastor, the
Rev. C. H. Mount, who will
be assisted by the Rev. F.
K. Pool and the Rev. J. S.
Cobb, and the interment will
be made in the family plot
in the adjoining cemetery.
The following
deacons from the church will
serve as the active
pallbearers: Leon Childers,
Joe Bridwell, Herman
Hawkins, Perry Hester,
Walter Green and Hovey
Hester.
The members of the
Men‘s Bible class are asked
to serve as the honorary
escort, together with the
following: A. G. Hill, Sr.,
J. F. Graves, Dr. S. R.
Gaston, Dr. E. C. Stroud,
and Dr. Hugh Smith.

Mrs. Ophelia Fox
Funeral services for Mrs.
Ophelia Marchbanks Fox of
Cleveland will be held
Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Reedy
River Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. S.P.
Hester, the Rev. J.S. Cobb
and the Rev. Marlowe Durham.
Interment will be in the
church cemetery.
Serving as active
pallbearers will be J.C.
Lindsey, W.J. Buchanan, A.E.
Cox Jr., Hubert Guest,
Raymond Tenney and Edgar
Jones.
Members of the
Mothers' Class of Reedy
River Baptist Church and the
Mothers' Class of Middle
River Baptist Church will
form the honorary escort.
The active
pallbearers and honorary
escort will meet at the
church at 3:50 p.m.
Wednesday.
Mrs. Fox was a
daughter of the late Peter
B. and Nancy Collins
Marchbanks and was born Dec.
4, 1875, in the Reedy River
community where she
continued her residence for
many years. She had also
lived in Pickens and
Anderson counties, but for
the past seven years had
been with her daughter, Mrs.
M.L. Jarrard at Cleveland.
She died Monday at 10:45
p.m. after several months of
illness.
Mrs. Fox was a member
of Reedy River Baptist
Church and of the Mothers
Class of the Sunday School.
Her husband, the late
Joseph S. Fox, died in 1933.
He was a former teacher of
the Men's Bible Class and
chairman of the Board of
Deacons at Reedy River
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fox is survived
by 1 daughter, Mrs. M.L.
Jarrard of Cleveland; 1
stepdaughter, Mrs. J.F.
Vickery of Greenville; 1
stepson, O.F. Fox of
Greenville; 2 sisters and 2
brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth M.
Brown, Mrs. Hattie M.
Phillips, Frank Marchbanks
Sr. and Sam Marchbanks, all
of Rt. 7, Greenville; 12
grandchildren and 9
great-grandchildren.
The body will be at
the home of Mrs. M.L.
Jarrard at Cleveland until
it is placed at the church
one hour before the service.
Thomas McAfee Funeral Home
is in charge.

Floyd Fox
Oscar
Floyd Fox, 81, of Greenville
died Friday night at an
Oteen, N.C., hospital.
He was the son of
the late Joseph S. and Mrs.
Mary Ceorgann Coggins Fox.
He was a veteran of World
War I and was a Baptist. He
made Greenville his home
following his retirement.
Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Richard J.
(Hazel) Harley of
Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs.
Don (Florence) Ray of Garden
City, Mich.; a son, Floyd C.
Fox of Arlington, Va.; and a
half-sister, Mrs. Melvin
(Clara) Jarrard of
Cleveland.
Funeral services
will be conducted Monday at
3:30 p.m. at the Travelers
Rest Funeral Home by the
Rev. Claude Neely and the
Rev. S.P. Hester. Burial
will be in the Reedy River
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be
Clarence Orr Jr., Paul D.
Jarrard II, James Simmons,
Eddie Smith, Junior Cox and
George Vickery.
The family will be
at the home of Mrs. Melvin
Jarrard of Cleveland, and
will receive friends from 7
to 10 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral home.
